ANFLOX PLATINUM

Oral solution

COMPOSITION

Norfloxacin 300 mg/ml

PHARMACOLOGICAL PROPERTIES

Norfloxacin has potent antimicrobial activities against many pathogens, including E. coli, Staphylococcus spp., Pseudomonas aeruginosa andMycoplasma gallisepticum. Norfloxacin is well absorbed orally. Peak serum concentrations are reached 20 minutes post-dosing, with an elimination t 1/2  of 12 hours and a bioavailability of 57%. Norfloxacin tends to penetrate the tissues rather slowly, with peak concentrations appearing 8 hours after dosing for all tissues except fat, where peak concentrations are reached at 24 hours after the oral dose. Norfloxacin is metabolized by the liver and excreted primarily in the urine. The elimination t 1/2 for a single IV dose is approximately 8 hours.

INDICATIONS

Turkeys, broilers, broiler breeders and replacement chickens: ANFLOX PLATINUM is indicated for diseases of the respiratory and alimentary tract that are of bacterial and mycoplasmal origin, e.g. pasteurellosis, coli-bacillosis, coli-septicaemia and salmonellosis.

CONTRA-INDICATIONS

Hypersensitivity to norfloxacin and other quinolone group antibiotics is contra-indicated.

DOSAGE AND MODE OF ADMINISTRATION

ANFLOX PLATINUM is administered via the drinking water. Medicated water should be made up immediately prior to provision. Medicated water should be supplied continuously throughout the treatment period and no other water should be made available.

12 mg morfloxacin per kg b.w. for 3-5 days. Under normal circumstances this equates to a dose of 100 ml ANFLOX PLATINUM per 600 litres of drinking water, but mature birds such as breeders may require 200 ml per 6 litres.

UNDESIRABLE EFFECTS

Arthropathies are reported in laboratory animals following norfloxacin treatment. In poultry these effects have not been seen, probably because doses were not high enough to induce an arthropathy.

SPECIAL PRECAUTIONS AND WARNINGS

Avoid using with other medications. ANFLOX PLATINUM may be mixed and used at the same time as water soluble live virus vaccines, or anticoccidials which are administered in the drinking water.
